Types of Sedation

• General Anesthesia: General anesthesia is typically used for patients that require more extensive treatment. It is typically administered intravenously or can be inhaled through a breathing mask. Once you come around after being under general anesthesia, you will have no recollection of the procedure. Rather, you will be put into an unconscious state so you do not feel any discomfort while the treatment is taking place. Our skilled team of specialists can manage your airways to ensure the safety of this method, and we are also extensively trained to manage any issues that may arise.
• IV (Conscious) Sedation: IV sedation, also known as conscious sedation, involves the use of a medication that is administered intravenously (through an IV) safely at our office. The effect puts you in a "twilight sleep." During this deep sleep, you do not feel any discomfort while the treatment is taking place. Once patients come around, they typically feel like they have been asleep and will have little to no memory of their treatment. IV sedation is commonly used during a dental implant procedure or tooth extractions. To enhance your comfort, we often pair this form of sedation with a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

This way you will know what to expect and be prepared after your treatment. You will require reliable transportation by a responsible adult to and from our office. Your responsible adult will be required to stay in the office during your surgery. 

Sedation Dentistry Aftercare and Recovery

Once the procedure is over and you are beginning to fully wake up from the sedation sleep, one of our surgical assistants will bring your trusted, responsible adult, into the room with you. The surgical assistant will go over your Post-Operative Instructions. Your Post-Operative Instructions will be dependent on which sedation method was utilized for your treatment. If you received local anesthesia, it is important to eat carefully until the numbness has completely worn away.

Does Insurance Cover Sedation Dentistry Services?
